About Roopkund
Roopkund Trek, famously known as the Skeleton Lake Trek, is one of the most iconic high-altitude treks in India. Located beneath the Trishul massif, the trail passes through dense forests, alpine meadows, high ridges, and glacial terrain before reaching the mysterious Roopkund Lake. The trek is equally known for the spectacular Ali and Bedni Bugyal meadows, among the largest alpine meadows in Asia.

Roopkund Trek Itinerary
Day 1: Lohajung to Didna Village
- Altitude: 2,450 meters
- Trek Distance: 7 km
- Trek Duration: 5–6 hours
The trek begins from Lohajung with a gradual descent toward the Neel Ganga River followed by a steady climb through dense oak and rhododendron forests toward Didna village. Enjoy beautiful mountain landscapes and traditional Himalayan village culture. Overnight stay at campsite/homestay.
Day 2: Didna Village to Ali Bugyal
- Altitude: 3,350 meters
- Trek Distance: 9 km
- Trek Duration: 6–7 hours
Today’s trail ascends through forests before opening into the vast alpine meadows of Ali Bugyal. Witness breathtaking views of Trishul and Nanda Ghunti peaks across rolling grasslands stretching into the horizon. Overnight camping in the meadows.
Day 3: Ali Bugyal to Patar Nachauni via Bedni Bugyal

- Trek Distance: 8 km
- Trek Duration: 5–6 hours
Cross the beautiful Bedni Bugyal meadows while enjoying uninterrupted Himalayan panoramas. The trail gradually climbs toward Patar Nachauni through alpine terrain and high ridges. Overnight stay at campsite.
Day 4: Patar Nachauni to Bhagwabasa
- Altitude: 4,300 meters
- Trek Distance: 6 km
- Trek Duration: 4–5 hours
Today’s route becomes steeper and more rugged as you move above the meadows into glacial terrain. Cross Kalu Vinayak temple and witness dramatic mountain views before reaching Bhagwabasa campsite. Overnight stay in tents.
Day 5: Bhagwabasa to Roopkund and return to Patar Nachauni

- Trek Duration: 8–9 hours
Begin early for the summit push toward Roopkund Lake. Reach the mysterious glacial lake known for ancient human skeleton remains discovered around its edge. Surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks and snowfields, the location offers one of the most dramatic high-altitude settings in Uttarakhand. Descend back toward Patar Nachauni for overnight stay.
Day 6: Patar Nachauni to Wan Village via Bedni Bugyal
- Altitude: 2,440 meters
- Trek Distance: 16 km
- Trek Duration: 6–7 hours
Descend gradually through Bedni Bugyal and forest trails toward Wan village while enjoying final panoramic views of the Garhwal Himalayas. Overnight stay at guesthouse/camp.
Day 7: Wan to Lohajung
- Drive Duration: 1 hour approx.
After breakfast, drive back to Lohajung marking the end of the trek.
