About the Bara Bhangal Trek
The Bara Bhangal Trek is one of the most remote and adventurous trails in the Indian Himalayas. Hidden deep inside the Dhauladhar range of Himachal Pradesh, Bara Bhangal is a traditional shepherd village that stays cut off for months due to snow. The trek crosses high passes, glacial streams, alpine meadows, and dramatic valleys while offering true wilderness travel.
This trek is ideal for experienced trekkers looking for isolation, culture, and serious mountain terrain. Crossing Thamsar Pass (4,850 m) is the highlight, rewarding trekkers with sweeping views of the Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar ranges.
Day 1: Arrival in Manali (2,050 m)
Arrive in Manali and meet the Himalayan Getaways team. Equipment check, briefing, and acclimatization walk in the evening.
Overnight: Guesthouse in Manali
Day 2: Manali to Chikka via Jagatsukh (3,100 m)
Drive to Jagatsukh and start trekking along alpine forests and shepherd trails. Gradual ascent with river crossings. Reach the Chikka campsite by evening.
Drive: 15 km | Trek: 6 km | Time: 4 to 5 hrs
Overnight: Camp
Day 3: Chikka to Seri Base (3,900 m)
The trail climbs through wide meadows and rocky slopes. Views of snow peaks dominate the skyline. This is an important acclimatization day.
Trek: 7 km | Time: 5 to 6 hrs
Overnight: Camp
Day 4: Seri Base to Thamsar Pass (4,850 m) to Bara Bhangal (2,900 m)
Start early for the longest and toughest day. Ascend on snow and scree to Thamsar Pass. From the top, enjoy dramatic Himalayan panoramas. Long descent into the hidden valley of Bara Bhangal village.

Day 5: Exploration Day at Bara Bhangal Village
Rest and explore the ancient shepherd settlement. Interact with locals, visit traditional stone houses, and understand the transhumance culture of the region. Optional short hikes around the valley.

Day 6: Bara Bhangal to Dal Gotru (3,400 m)
Follow the Ravi River upstream through forests and open valleys. The trail is scenic and moderate.
Trek: 8 km | Time: 5 hrs
Overnight: Camp
Day 7: Dal Gotru to Panihartu (3,600 m)
Gradual ascent with glacial stream crossings and meadow walks. Views of rocky ridges and waterfalls.
Trek: 7 km | Time: 5 hrs
Overnight: Camp
Day 8: Panihartu to Lohardi via Kalihani Pass Option (3,800 m)
Climb to a scenic ridge and descend toward forest zones. This section offers dramatic transitions from high alpine to pine forests.
Trek: 9 km | Time: 6 hrs
Overnight: Camp
Day 9: Lohardi to Bir and Departure
Final descent through villages and forest trails. Drive to Bir for onward travel.
Trek: 5 km | Time: 3 hrs | Drive: 40 km
