About the Hampta Pass Trek
The Hampta Pass Trek is one of Himachal’s most scenic crossover treks, connecting the lush green Kullu Valley with the stark landscapes of Spiti. The trail takes you through forests, open meadows, glacial streams, snowfields, and dramatic mountain passes. In just a few days, trekkers witness a complete change in terrain and culture. Ideal for both fit beginners and experienced trekkers, Hampta Pass offers adventure, altitude, and stunning Himalayan views in a compact itinerary.
Day 1: Manali to Jobra – Trek to Chika (3,100 m)
Drive from Manali to Jobra, the trek starting point. Begin your walk through pine and maple forests with the Rani Nallah flowing beside you. The trail opens into wide meadows with grazing horses. Reach Chika campsite, surrounded by snow-clad peaks.
Drive: 16 km | Trek: 3 km | Time: 2–3 hrs
Overnight: Camp
Day 2: Chika to Balu Ka Ghera (3,750 m)
Trek along the river, crossing small streams and rocky sections. The valley widens with panoramic mountain views and glacier patches. Balu Ka Ghera is a beautiful high-altitude campsite with dramatic surroundings.
Trek: 6 km | Time: 4–5 hrs
Overnight: Camp
Day 3: Balu Ka Ghera to Hampta Pass (4,270 m) to Shea Goru (3,900 m)
Summit day. Start early and climb steadily over snow and scree to reach Hampta Pass. From the top, witness the stunning transition from green Kullu to the barren Spiti landscape. Descend carefully to Shea Goru, camping near a glacial stream.
Trek: 9 km | Time: 7–8 hrs
Overnight: Camp
Day 4: Shea Goru to Chatru – Drive to Chandratal (optional) – Return to Chatru
Descend through rocky terrain and river crossings to Chatru. If weather and roads permit, drive to the stunning Chandratal Lake for exploration and photography, then return to Chatru.

Overnight: Camp / Guesthouse
Day 5: Chatru to Manali – Departure Day
Drive back to Manali via Rohtang Pass, enjoying views of glaciers and valleys. Trek concludes with unforgettable memories of the Hamta Pass crossing.
